HIDROTECMA-SP is a clear, colourless and transparent liquid alkaline product with a high solids content.

Creates durable protection against moisture and water penetration in concrete floors and pavements after reactions and crystallization inside the concrete. Some of the crystals formed are hygroscopic, swell from the absorption of water and as a consequence a silica gel is formed which forms a waterproofing membrane inside the concrete structure. The use of HIDROTECMA-SP in the treatment of concrete pavements provides the following advantages:

• High water leakage reduction
• Permanent sealing of most of the micro cracks on the surface
• Strong reduction of chloride ion diffusion coefficient, which could be caused by seawater, antifreeze salt, etc.
• Higher freeze-thaw cycle resistance
• Higher resistance to many types of aggressive chemical agents
• Reduction of the alkaline silica formed inside the concrete as a result of the contact between cement and water
• Protection of steel bars of reinforced concrete
• Protection against surface salts
• Protection against the formation of cracks in concrete caused by thermal changes
• Liquid waterproofing for concrete

Usage and Dosage

It is advisable to protect all items made of glass, wood, ceramics, etc. that are close to the application area before starting the application.

A. - On fresh concrete:

• Apply HIDROTECMA-SP as soon as the concrete slab is a strong enough surface to walk on and before the first micro cracks formed by temperature changes begin to appear. Leave the entire surface wetted with HIDROTECMA-SP for about 30 min.
• When the HIDROTECMA-SP starts to dry on the surface again, wet the entire surface a little with water.
• Once HIDROTECMA-SP begins to dry again, clean the surface with water and remove the excess HIDROTECMA-SP with a nylon brush or scraper until the surface is completely dry.

For exterior use and when surface cleaned with a nylon brush or broom, cleaning with water is optional; any visible excess of HIDROTECMA-SP should be removed with a brush or broom after 40-45 min.

In case the concrete slab is to be coated, steps 2 and 3 can be skipped and the product left to dry completely on the surface. Allow it to cure in the same way as untreated concrete.

B. -Applying waterproofing over old concrete (completely dry):

HIDROTECMA-SP should always be applied to perfectly clean, dry and dust-free concrete surfaces. Surfaces should be cleaned of possible hardening agents before application. Any product that may inhibit or delay the penetration of the product into the substrate should be eliminated. Areas that have cracks or holes should be repaired after the surface has been cleaned with a cement-based product (such as PREMHOR).

Before application, the concrete surface should be cleaned either with water and a pressure hose or preferably with a suitable cleaner, which in addition to cleaning also opens the pores and thus improves the penetration of the HIDROTECMA-SP.

If there are stains from oil, grease or other contaminants, remove them by cleaning with detergents and degreasers. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry completely before proceeding with product application. Removal of loose particles and dust from the surface can be done using an air compressor.

Application:

• Wet the surface to be treated with clean water almost to saturation.
• Eliminate excess water or puddles with a scraper. Allow the surface to dry completely for 2-3 h.
• Mix the product well.
• Start saturating the surface with HIDROTECMA-SP (see W) so that the entire surface is wetted with HIDROTECMA-SP for at least 30 min.
• Then one of the following situations can happen:
  • If after another 40-50 min., most of the HIDROTECMA-SP is absorbed by the substrate, remove the residue with a brush, broom or scraper so that this residue is absorbed into nearby areas or simply remove it from the surface.
  • If after these 40-50 min. most of the HIDROTECMA-SP is still on the surface, wait approximately 2 h and then clean the surface with clean water and completely remove it using a scraper until the surface is completely dry.

Question W: HIDROTECMA-SP may be applied to saturate surfaces, as described in section 4, by low pressure sprayers, rollers, nylon brushes or brooms or scrapers. It is recommended that application to large areas, such as parking lots or airplane runways, be made with a low pressure sprayer.

Treated surfaces can be used as soon as application is complete and the surface is dry to the touch again.

Special Recommendations

Safety precautions must be taken during the use and storage of the product, which is required for most chemical products used in construction. It is an eye, skin and respiratory irritant. Avoid product contact with these areas. Keep away from children. If in eyes clean thoroughly with water for at least 15 min. If on skin wash thoroughly with soap and water.

HIDROTECMA-SP is an alkaline product, so all surfaces of glass, wood, glazed items, etc. that are near the treatment area should be protected.

Coverage

The coating and the quantities used depend on each specific case as the factors influencing the type and porosity of the substrate. These two characteristics mainly determine the absorption capacity. When using this product, it is important to achieve a high degree of surface saturation. With this in mind, the coating thickness of HIDROTECMA-SP should average 4-5 m²/l.

Storage

HIDROTECMA-SP should be stored in a refrigerated dry place (+5⁰C to +30⁰С). Very low temperatures can cause the product to freeze and crystallise. The shelf life of HIDROTECMA-SP may be 24 months from the date of manufacture if kept in the original containers and stored as described.
